There are FOUR pieces to the Jigsaw puzzle of Implementing Real Time Remote Monitoring of a Solar Plant.
1. A Robust Wireless Connectivity Platform to enable Wireless links right across the Solar Plant, so that each Component of the Plant could be monitored. Note that, Not all Components are present in the Control Room. The SMBs (String Monitoring Box) are spread across the Plant. Weather Stations also could be physically far away from Control Room. RS485 Cabling might be absent/damaged.
2. A Robust Hardware Platform to collect data from various Components in a Solar Plant. This Platform should be Vendor Independant. For example, it should support an SMA Inverter just as it would support an ABB or Sungrow make. Not just limited to Inverters, but also SMBs, Weather Stations, Trackers, UPS, Fire-Alarms etc.
3. A Robust Software Platform for Real Time Monitoring. This should be Cloud based so that any Internet enabled device such as Mobile phones could be used for Monitoring.
4. A Local SCADA system which works without any dependency on the Internet. Often the Solar Plants are in remote areas which are out of Coverage area for 3G/4G cellular data or ISPs.
Megamic has Expertise and Products in all the above mentioned areas. We see ourselves as a single stop shop for all your Monitoring requirements. We can take care of end-to-end definition, execution and commissioning when it comes to Monitoring. There are no external dependencies for us.
Is there any Spectrum Licensing needed to use Megamic’s wireless Platform ?
No, we only use License free band for RF operation.
If the Plant already has RS485 cabling done, do we still need to use Wireless Nodes for reading data from Solar Components ?
No, if RS485 cabling is intact and its health not compromised, the RS485 Daisy Chain Reader can be used instead to directly read data over RS485 / MODBUS interface.
We already have an Online Monitoring Platform, Can your hardware send data directly to our Server ?
Yes, it can. Please do get in touch with us with the specifics. Our Team would be more that happy to support you.
How about data backup ? What happens during Internet outages ?
Data is backed up Locally inside Megamic’s Gateway Controller. The Gateway has enough storage to run for 60 days without Internet.
Once the Internet resumes, data is uploaded to Cloud with their original time stamps. Even during Internet outage, data can be monitored on Local SCADA (if installed) within the Control Room.
What are the prerequisites for a Solar Plant to be Monitored ? Does it need to have Internet connection ?
Internet connection would be nice to have. Or we would have to use a SIM card based dongle for connectivity. As such there are no specific prerequisites. Our Products seamlessly interface to off the shelf inverters, weather stations, SMBs, trackers etc.
Can the system be used for Roof Tops ?
Yes, it can be used. We have Customers who have used our Hardware products for Roof Top Installations.
